Héctor Prieto, Ph.D Student at University of Alcalá, gave us the details of the first balloon flight campaign with regards to the infrared camera.

A fantastic team did their best to bring the IR camera and the whole instrument back safe "home". Fortunately the IR Camera and the whole instrument (euso-balloon) succeed, and survived.

Once the IR camera box was dismounted from the gondola, the team proceeds to check if there was any physical damage.  Fortunately there was not any single scratch.  Every single part of the IR Camera was working perfect after 7 hours into water.

The physical conditions of the box were similar to the ones before the flight.

After opening the camera box, there weren’t any trace of water inside of it. The disks, camera, and the rest of the components were not affected at all.  The CPU was turned on and the data from the disks was extracted.

Once the data was saved, the camera was partially dismounted. The battery pack was extracted and stored in a safe box with the rest of batteries. The camera and the rest of components were stored back into their box in order to be sent back to Spain.

Hector Prieto: “I would like to thank all members involved into the design, development, construction and integration of the IR Camera for such a success. Thank you for your dedication and passion while developing this instrument. I am Proud and glad to be part of this great achievement, as well as ready for another challenge with you. Our camera not only succeeded, it did survive as well. It can also be used again without any problems!!”
